The coalition, through our meetings, Discord server, website, and on-the-ground activism, engages in the following aspects of democracy:
Our democracy, history
Understanding how our democracy works is essential to understanding how we can utilize and preserve it. Additionally, the risks our democracy faces today are direct reflections of historical lessons of the past.
The coalition discusses and presents the history of democracy in the US and abroad.
Current events, activism
Current events in the US political landscape concerning the anti-democratic and populist movement behind Donald Trump constitutes the greatest threat to democracy right now. Followers of this ideology not only have eroded democracy at the federal level, but are spreading it to the state and local levels as well.
The coalition strives to be a stopping force to this backsliding through activism contacting representatives and on-the-ground presence.
Elections, democratic enhancements
Supporting candidates who follow democratic principles and getting out the vote are prime actions of the coalition each election season.
Additionally, the coalition supports democratic enhancements including Ranked Choice Voting, Proportional Representation, abolition of the Electoral College, and constitutional reform.
I would like to establish a Students4Democracy club at Purdue. To get an idea of what the club will do, please read the manifesto. If you’d be interested in joining the club make sure to join the Discord server.
